Short answer: an apartment clean is priced by the size and condition of the unit, not by the word "apartment." A studio in Belltown and a three-bedroom in a Capitol Hill fourplex are different jobs, and a single flat "apartment rate" would overcharge one and rush the other. The cleaning itself is not really different from cleaning a house - what is different is the building around it, and that is the part most quotes get wrong.
What an apartment clean covers
Every unit gets the same room-by-room scope as a house, sized to the space:
- Kitchen - counters and backsplash, sink and fixtures, cabinet faces, range and hood degreased, appliance exteriors, and the floor including under the toe-kick edge.
- Bathrooms - tub, shower, tile and grout scrubbed and disinfected, toilet, vanity, mirror, and the exhaust fan cover.
- Living areas and bedrooms - dusting from high to low, light switches and door handles, baseboards, and floors vacuumed and washed.
- The apartment-specific list - balcony slider glass and its track, the in-unit washer and dryer closet, and the window sills that collect condensation in a building you cannot air out properly.
Smaller units are not simply faster. A studio concentrates the kitchen, the bathroom, and the living space into one room, so the surfaces that take the most work are the majority of the floor plan rather than a fraction of it. That is why square footage alone is a poor quote, and why we ask what is in the unit rather than only how big it is.
Getting into the building
This is the real difference. A house has a door and a driveway; a Seattle apartment building has a fob, a call box, a front desk with hours, a loading zone that may need reserving, and in many downtown and Eastside towers a service elevator that has to be booked in advance. None of that is difficult, but all of it has to be arranged before the day rather than discovered on it. Tell us how we get in - a leasing office key release, a lockbox, a fob left with a concierge, or you meeting us - and street parking realities in dense neighborhoods like Belltown, First Hill, or downtown Bellevue, and the visit runs on time. What "detail cleaning" actually adds
Detail cleaning is not a marketing upgrade on the same visit - it is a second, slower pass at the edges a routine clean moves past. In an apartment that usually means window and slider tracks scraped rather than wiped, blind slats done individually, cabinet and drawer interiors, inside the oven and refrigerator, baseboards and door frames by hand, and vent and fan covers. It is the right scope when a unit has not had a thorough clean in a long time, before a lease inspection, or after a stretch of heavy use. Damp buildings and small rooms
Seattle apartments concentrate the region's damp-season problem. Bathrooms are often interior with no window at all, drying racks stand in for the outdoor line nobody has, and older buildings still carry single-pane glass that runs with condensation on cold mornings. The result is mildew on sills, around tub surrounds, and in the grout - and a musty note that no amount of surface wiping removes because it lives in the seals and the tracks. We disinfect those areas rather than just cleaning them, and clear the window tracks where the water actually collects. Moving out of an apartment
Apartment move-outs are the most common turnover we clean, and they are their own scope: an empty unit, a property manager's standardized checklist, and a fixed handover date. Because the checklist is standardized, the pass and fail items are predictable - inside the appliances, cabinet and drawer interiors, the washer and dryer closet, balcony tracks.
